Today, I pledge to take a stand against racism:

To see the humanity in each individual as inseparable from my own.

To refuse to be silent in situations of prejudice, blatant racism and the exploitation of any persons on the basis of their race.
To say “No” to Xenophobia and to stand in solidarity with those who are victim to its violence and hatred.

To examine my own heart and mind for prejudice and to actively seek to change it.
To remove any sense of racial superiority, entitlement and/or ethnocentrism.

To acknowledge the realities of historical and structural racism.
To acknowledge that even if I am not directly responsible for the historical causes, I am responsible for how I respond to them in today.

To reach out to those who are different from me to try to break the bonds of the walls that divide us.

To listen first and seek to understand the other's perspective and experience even if it stands in direct contradiction to my own.

To join in the dialogue on racial equality boldly but with patience, understanding and love; always seeking to understand the perspective of the “other” in the process.

To walk alongside my brothers and sisters of all races in this journey toward healing and restoration for as long as it takes until we reach the “mountaintop of our desires” and can move forward, together, in reconciliation.

“There is no easy walk to freedom anywhere, and many of us will have to pass through the valley of the shadow of death again and again before we reach the mountaintop of our desires.” Nelson Mandela
